      Cultural Assets of Chejudo Island



      It's assumed that people have lived in Cheju island since the old stone age, seen on the basis of the remains and assets found in various locations starting from the old stone age's cave remains in Ville pond of Ouum-ri through new stone age's remains of Gosan-ri to earthenware age's remains of Sangmo-ri.

      There are many cultural remains of old age's Tamra. Samsonghyol (Three first names cave) where three men of Khoula, Yangoula and Buoula were born, dolmen tombs found in various locations, the shell mound of Gwakgi-ri and reddish brown earth wares are the famous remains of those ages. Especially the money and bronze mirrors of the age of Han in China found at the construction site for sea ports indicate that there was trade with the continent in that age.       Samsasuk of Hwabuk-dong(article 34 of local monument), Honengi(Wedding pond)(article 17 of local monument), remains against Mongolia (article 29 of local monument), 5-story stone tower of Samyang-dong, Oheyndan of Cheju City (article 1 of local monument), Gwanduckjung (article 34 of national treasure), Cheju local school annexed to the Confucian shrine, Sanchundan of Ara-dong, Yunbukjung of Jochun-ri (article 1 of concrete cultural assets), Daezung holy region, Jungyou village castle, Kimmanduk cemetery are all famous relics of historical ages. Other remains including these which are found in various locations indicate the deep roots of the culture of Cheju. (Picture shows Gwandukjung which is one of famous buildings.
